I love this inspiration list - some of my favourites as well as new wishlist spots!!
I just read your Dolomites guide and I’m dying to go back (I spent 3 days there - not nearly enough!!). I’m super curious how you discovered the places you stayed - were they recommendations or the product of extensive research? They’re exactly the types of places I love to go, so would love any tips for unearthing similar properties!
Thank you so much, Erin! Where did you go in the Dolomites? We decided to stick to the western part for this trip and are dying to go back and explore more!!
Extensive travel research is a favorite pastime haha. There look to be soo many great places to stay in the Dolomites, it was really hard to decide. I found these in a beautiful travel book that I picked up randomly from a shop in Vienna! It's called the Montamont A.T.C. South Tyrol Guide.
there truly is no better place than anywhere near the med sea. it’s my ultimate happy place! loved this list. felt super nostalgic reading it. thank you for sharing!
I spent a few weeks in Provence a few years ago and the way you described its feel brought back memories of how it felt to be there. I’ve traveled quite a bit and that area is hard to describe because it’s more of a feeling than its visual aesthetics. You have to visit to understand it. I remember driving near the vineyards and thinking how lucky I was to experience the feel of this place.
Thank you for sharing this, Janet. I appreciate it because I wasn't sure I was doing it justice! Provence has such a distinctive feeling to it that is difficult to put into words. Now your recollection of driving through the vineyards is bringing ME back!! Where in Provence did you stay? We were based close to Saint-Remy, in Saint-Etienne-du-Gres.
Julianna, have I ever mentioned to you that I lived in Wales back in the day? If you need any recommendations on the country, let me know! It is absolutely stunning there.
I didn’t know that! How did you like living there? Will definitely take you up on the offer for some recommendations when we decide to go, thank you! 🙏🏻
I really loved it, apart from the rain. At one point I considered staying long term but couldn’t deal with the weather. Funny enough, the winters here in Berlin are not any better so not sure I had made a good judgment call here haha. But Wales is such an underrated, beautiful country. The people are so lovely too.

I stayed in the city center in Aix de Provence for a bit and then Lourmarin and the other nearby small villages.

Hoping we get to go very soon! Where in Wales did you live?
I lived right in Cardiff at the time.
Great list. My husband is from Oban and we’re back visiting a few times each year. The West Coast of Scotland is such a special place :)
